We men all know how Gillette makes its money.
Every two to three years they release a new razor equipped with double the number of blades. Some of their razors even come with batteries. Gillette is an expert at creating buzz around their razors and they quickly become a marketing hype. Their commercials we take for granted: it makes perfect sense that three blades shave better than two, right? Five blades must result in a much smoother skin than can be achieved with just three.
Only at the grocery store we become aware of their tricky marketing techniques, these razor blades are darn expensive! Way more expensive than what I paid for the razor in the first place.
Yes, I’m a happy user of the five-bladed Gillette Fusion razor. But what’s next? I find it hard to believe that they’ll release a ten-bladed razor will be Gillette. But when they come up with original Flash banners like below for Mach 3 razor, no doubt I’ll buy whatever shaving products they will come up with next, won’t you? It’s just the best a man can get.

The Gillette Company was founded in 1901 by King Camp Gillette in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2005, The company was acquired by Proctor & Gamble. Major brands from Gillette include Braun, Duracell, and Oral-B. To learn more about the razor business model, read this article or this one.
Kok, mengapa hanya 20 MB?

NEW: UP TO 20 MB REAL MEMORY
Don’t let them forget the best parts of growing up!
Finally surgery meets technology. A relatively painless procedure that allows you to store up to 20mbs memory in your head. Don’t forget birthday, holidays, parties, and other important dates again.

Why only 20 MB? No way that’s going to be enough! No, that’s actually not what I thought when I saw this ad in Ireland’s Metro newspaper a few days ago, it was more like: Did I miss something the last couple of years? And how are those USB ports going to connect with my brain anyway? Here, have a look at the ad:

The ad is for the website www.younearlyforgot.com, a service that sends you a reminder for birthdays and anniversaries. Nothing special at all.
The ad copy reads:
NEW: UP TO 20 MB REAL MEMORY
Don’t let them forget the best parts of growing up!
Finally surgery meets technology. A relatively painless procedure that allows you to store up to 20mbs memory in your head. Don’t forget birthday, holidays, parties, and other important dates again.

What do you think, how many gigabytes would we need? Will there ever be something like this?
So you thought that all these Web 2.0 logos were confusing and characteristic of a scattered landscape of useful and less useful services? Think again.
The other day I saw this show on Dutch television discussing the functioning of government bodies. It’s a monstrous, bureaucratic bunch often delivering below-par services. The image below depicts the many logos of different government bodies, illustrating its bureaucratic structure:

However, Minister of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Guusje ter Horst plans to cut down the number of civil servants to 15.000 and deliver some 80% (!) of government services over the Internet. All good stuff.
Logo collections are hot these days, the above image instantly reminded me of this huge Web 2.0 logo collection on Flickr:

Update:
Witness Bullard’s meteoric rise to fame as a blogger, dia baru membuat blog sendiri dengan judul yang pas: Bullog! Apakah dia benar-benar telah link-bait kita semua? Kelihatan jelas dia senang blogging, seperti saya.
David Bullard of the Sunday Times has written quite a crushing article about blogs. Should I bother to write down my own objections here? No, better just continue blogging; I’m only having fun and I happen to like it. I love my guitar!
Interesting discussions going on here, here and here.
Update:
Witness Bullard’s meteoric rise to fame as a blogger, he just launched his own blog called Bullog! What a launch, has he link-baited us all then? But hey, it’s clear he’s having fun blogging. Just like I am.
On the 4th of May at 20:00, the Dutch observe two minutes of silence to remember the people who have become casualties of war since the outbreak of World War II. The day after, we celebrate our freedom.
The National Committee 4 and 5 May has made an MP3 with two minutes of silence available for download. People can play it on their computer, iPod or mobile phone in observance of Remembrance Day.

One of the accompanying banners is shown above, webmasters can put it on their site to encourage people to download the MP3. It’s good to see that such a fairly traditional committee runs a modern campaign like this one to increase awareness of this important day!
